Vivendi and Activision getting together. Could be a match made in heaven.

Because making creative companies bigger has made them make better products historically?

I personally think this sucks for the gaming industry.

Was it Activision that kinda screwed the pooch with the Mechwarrior series or was that Microsoft? Either way, there is something that made me not like Activision and for the life of me, I can't remember what it is.

Activison did Mechwarrior 2, Ghost Bears Legacy and Mercenaries. When I think Mechwarrior games, I think of these. The music was beyond its time and I remember listening to the CDs to fall asleep to.

3 went to some sub division of Microprose I believe, I don't remember playing much of it but I think it was one of the first games published to run exclusive under XP and had a shitload of computability issues.

4 of course is the relaunch under the Microsoft FASA flag.

I liked Ghost Bears and Mercenaries. I'm probably thinking of Mechwarrior 3, which I didn't like so much.

Maybe it was Pitfall for the Atari 2600 that did it, heh. I hated that game (fuckin' alligators!)

I believe the developer you're thinking of is Zipper Interactive. Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, I took part in the beta test of MW3 through a newly formed group (at the time) called iBeta. It was a huge pile of crap as I recall, and in typical fashion didn't get the attention it needed.

Damn ya'll are harsh. I was one of the primary QA testers on Mechwarrior 3 and the expansion pack Pirate's Moon. It was published by Microprose and developed by Zipper Interactive back when they were still a hole in the wall with 8 people. The game got good reviews and won several awards and was one of GameSpots best of E3 98. Being one of my early QA jobs, it was still one of my favorite games to work on. I got to do a lot of flying back and forth from SF to Seattle and I loved the crew I worked with

I got pretty much 8+ ratings across the board. Then when MIcrosoft bought FASA and Zipper, they took it over.
