You rarely get them.

A summer spent chasing the power of memory, the allure of the past...the girl next door. What might have been, had things been different? Given the opportunity...

Image

...would you take a chance on that? I did.

Ten years ago, a mutual crush throughout high school...shared interests and experiences...living right across the street. So many missed opportunities for each of us to tell the other how we felt.

This time around, I told her. And for an evening, it was mutual.

That night, we wanted a relationship...but the next morning, her mind changed. Because, she said, I represented the past...and you can never go back.

Over the years, we grew apart as people. We'd simply changed too much for it to work.

When it's all said and done, and the expenses of airfare and emotional breakdown tallied up, the net cost to me is hard to put a number to. Regret is a powerful emotion. Most chances only come once, and even if not, it's harder the second time around. If you see such a chance, be it at happiness or success, take it now before it's too late...because time is doing its best to take it from you.

“I’ve always wanted to sail to the South Seas, but can’t afford it.” What these men can’t afford is not to go. They are enmeshed in the cancerous discipline of “security.” And in the worship of security we fling our lives beneath the wheels of routine—and before we know it our lives are gone.

What does a man need—really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in—and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. That’s all—in the material sense. And we know it. But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up in a tomb beneath a pyramid of time payments, mortgages, preposterous gadgetry, playthings that divert our attention from the sheer idiocy of the charade.

The years thunder by. The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it the tomb is sealed.

Where, then lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life?”

- Sterling Hayden

After reading your initial post, it is you who should be pitied. You posted an attention whoring post, and I responded to provide you with the attention you seek. Find a friend, you really need one. And yes, she looks like a man to me (and I am sure she'd be thrilled to know the dude she doesn't want any part of posted her picture on these boards).

ps: Is she the "girlfriend" you have been talking about when asking for games that you two can play together? I didn't think so...

not seeing it. You are wrong Neesh-man. Your dude has totally different facial structure, eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, chin, musclulature, etc.

Also, I just noticed that girl has got a snake on her. That is very gross, she need to get rid of it. F all snakes.

There are few things I cannot tolerate. I cannot tolerate stupid people who can't spell. I cannot tolerate attention whores. I cannot tolerate people who try to fit in by selling themselves out on message boards. And I cannot tolerate computer nerds who bitch about video games 24/7 but play video games 23/7. As with most message boards, these are filled with those personality types, so I usually respond to them and become a "hater". It is my curse and I can accept that. It's not exactly news.

In truth, when I glanced at the picture that Dola posted, it reminded me of a dude I knew long ago (the guy who's picture I posted). I could have said nothing, but that's no fun. Seriously, what do you think Dola hoped to achieve by this post? Attention whoring as usual, or was he really trying to reach out and speak to our souls? I think you know my answer to that question.

Happy Holidays

I can't blame him for holding grudges. Embarrassing posts from their private members forum (especially from that loudmouth Ballhaus shitting all over their own allied guild) had a nasty habit of ending up public information...most notably, on the general forum of the guild in question.

We always knew what they were up to.

Aww, Dola is trying to seem cool. If I had the old emails of you back when you "deleted" your character or back when you said how much you had cried IRL over being booted from Vita, and over all of the drama from back then, I'd be happy to post them. But I didn't keep that shit, sadly. Attention whoring then, attention whoring now. You haven't changed one bit, other than possibly dropping 100 pounds. Why in the world would you think it's a grudge? It's me seeing an idiot and calling him out on being an idiot. In fact, it's the same idiot who begged to be banned from the Lanys boards because they were controlling him, or whatever nonsense reason he gave, but still visited the boards under an alias. And then, when he felt he wasn't getting the attention he craved, he let everyone know that alias_jackass_poster005 was, in fact, Public_Enemy_Numrek (or whatever the hell the name was). As if I give a fuck about guild shit from 8 years ago being common knowledge. I've moved on, it's you who wants to relive the "glory days." Hell, I had access to the Fervor boards the entire time, thanks to one of their members being too stupid to know how to make an ezBoard sig (he gave his login information to someone to fix the code for his sig, and that person gave me the login information). "Always knew what they were up to," indeed.

<insert "fucking clown shoes" here>

Wow, nice quote Rugen. I especially like the last line. I've never heard of Sterling Hayden before though.

I always go back to Thoreau when it comes to situations like Dola's which I'm sure we have all experienced:

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

That's just perfect. I wrote her a 151-page book about our history and experience(s) together...had it printed, hardcover, and mailing it to her for her birthday. Those quotes are going inside the front cover.

Er yeah... I guess if you were outside the situation that would seem odd.

We started out writing to each other again to begin with, and one of her ex-boyfriends had already written two (shorter) books for her. The idea kinda grew out of that. Before I left I asked her what she'd think if I were to write her one...she knows writing is my thing, and said she'd read it for sure.

More or less it's my trip that summer, and all the things that happened to us, told from my perspective in narrative format, and a chat log or two thrown in for perspective. Not exactly your average "rambling manifesto". She's aware and is expecting it, but doesn't know exactly what's in it, so that's the surprise.

I have to agree with Neesha. What the hell is the point of this post? I cant figure out if your going for the "I'm so deep" thing or the "I had sex with this girl, check it out!", or both. I know it does have enough wannabe emo depression crap that it should not be seriously.

There also seems to be a bit of a misconception here...we parted on good terms. It just can't work as a relationship is all, which was a big letdown at the time (I won't deny), but such is life.

Kind of reminds me of Trillian! heh

Writing a book for a chick is weird though. Especially writing one after you found out her exes did. That comes across as unbelievably pathetic. I can't imagine her taking you seriously after that, even if she is expecting it.

I know some really nice girls to whom I could introduce you, Dolalin. One's a pre-operative transsexual with a penchant for nameplay, and the other is a kawaii-worshipping imbecile who thinks she's got a golden snatch. Either one would be perfect for you.

I can't think of many women who would build up meeting an old flame by thinking about sitting up to talk about their feelings, an oil painting, and a novel. That's pretty thick, and is a deal breaker even if she likes you.
