Twilight, a novel by Stephenie Meyer, has been bill as young adult fantasy fiction. It's written from the first person narrative perspective of the main character, who has moved to a small town in Washington state and in short meets and falls in love with a vampire. The crux of the problem is the quintessential story: how can the lion and the lamb possibly coexist? Can there be a happy ending when, at the root of it all, the characters are essentially incompatible? The easy solution would be for the heroine to turn into a vampire herself --- but the complication is that her love interest refuses to bring her into what he sees as an existence of eternal damnation.

Now while it's easy to dismiss it as Yet Another Trashy Romance Novel, keep in mind that I do not like romance novels as a genre, or even the ones touted as "the best" of that type of writing. I could never stomach Danielle Steele or other authors whose names I can't remember. What it is is entertaining fiction from the perspective of a young woman, no more, no less. It's well-written and the plot moves along at a good clip the entire way through.

If you're looking for a fun read and you happened to like books like Tanya Huff's "Blood Lines" series, you may enjoy Twilight. The content is tame enough that you could share the reading experience with your teenage daughter (boys may find it too mushy) and both have a good time. The reading level is accessible for younger readers but does not "read down", making it equally enjoyable for adults.

There are two more books in the series that have been published, with a fourth (and hopefully final, I do not want to see her draw this out to get more money) due to be published late this year that concludes the story.

I'll have to check it out, normally I'd roll my eyes and bypass it too. Have you read the Stephanie Plum novels? I normally wouldn't go for them, but it was one of the rare books both my mom and dad liked and so I got started on them and I've read them all so far. First book is called 'One for the Money' (the rest are all themed that way, 2, 3, 4, etc).

While not necessarily my cup of tea, these are the kinds of books that my wife reads...so I think I'll pass it on to her.

The town that its based in, Forks, really is horribly boring in real life. About the only thing there is to do there is go to the Bowling Alley. I spent some time there when I was younger, had some family friends who lived there. It would be the perfect place for vampires to hide though...

It was ok. A bit "girly". But her market was teenage girls, so she hit her mark.

My GF owns this series. I haven't touched it, nor do I intend to.

Have you read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris? The first book (of 7 so far) is called Dead Until Dark. This will also be a new show on HBO next year called True Blood. Kind of girly but a quick and easy read.

Have you read Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blacke Vampire Hunter series? NOT girly. 15 books so far. First one is called Guilty Pleasures.

I think I am going to read the Guardian series next by Keri Arthur.

I really liked the first few booked of the Anita Blake series, but I was really disappointed with the way the series went. I stopped reading after it turned into porn in supernatural clothing.

Yeah, I know what you mean however I am still reading the books. I am on the 13th book now called Micah. They didn't start getting very sexual until the 10th book, Narcissus In Chains, and I enjoyed that book a lot.
