This is really comments on two different TV subjects last night.

First, a rave. I really enjoyed the premier of Studio 60 last night. You can really feel Aaron Sorkin's touch here-- some smart writing, and the camera work will completely remind you of West Wing. This is a show I will definately be watching. My only complaint is that the girl who is the new president of NBS (read: NBC) didn't seem to be a great actress to me. Her facial expressions seemed to be sometimes unreadable. But hey, she showed her boobies in The Whole Nine Yards, so I guess she's ok.

Second, a general comment about our presidents. I just want to say how refreshing it was to watch an interview of Bill Clinton last night on The Daily Show. Full sentences! Coherant thoughts, put together without soundbites! Thoughtful commentary! And all on the fly! It's been so long I forgot what a President is supposed to sound like. How any of you voted for Bush is just beyond me. This was further underscored in the Colbert Report, when Steven played a clip of our President criticizing the Geneva Convention: "dur dur dur... what does it even MEAN???? dur dur dur.... it's so..so..so VAGUE. W-w---wwe can't have it be uh... uh VAGUE.

Pathetic.

Both sound like rednecks to me. The use of "uhhhh" was made famous by Clinton. So I never saw much difference except Bush uses more of a Country slang, where as Clinton used expressions when he spoke. Starting every sentence with "uhhhhh" never made anyone an articulate speaker.

Reagan was a far better speaker than either of the two. (imo) But I do agree, it's been a very long time since we had a well spoken President in office. Kerry would've been the first in a while, but his monotone voice would've put the general public to sleep before he got 3 minutes into any speech.

Never saw much of a difference between Clinton and Bush's ability to speak articulately?

That was part of Clinton's 'charm' his ability to interview, debate, and give speeches.

Bush Sr wasn't that great of a speaker either, compared to Clinton and of course Reagan who was also a charmer from the lectern.

Well, I'm not really talking about the "uh's" in their speech, and my quote of Bush on the Colbert show may have mislead on that point. I was thinking much more about the "quality of thought." Clinton was not being partisan, btw-- the interview was about his bipartisan shit he's been doing with elder Bush. It was more that Jon could ask a question, and Bill could come up with a clear response that made sense, actually answered the question, and showed some level of thought beyond identifying a few key words and then repeating catchphrases.

When I watch a Bush press conference, so many times that's what it seems to be. He hear's a few key words thrown at him, and reaches into a barrel of canned responses. I rarely ever feel like it's real thought involved. Often the answers don't seem to match the questions. It feels so unthoughtful. Even when they aren't canned answers, like the excerpt from the Geneva question last night, it just seems like the light bulb is dim.

Clinton may say "uh," but I'm sorry; it actually seems like there's a brain behind the eyes. How one could put them in the same category is beyond my comprehension.

Also, talk more about Studio 60 :p. I liked it, and am looking forward to seeing it again!

I didn't watch it.. and you have a multifaceted topic you're gonna get responses to both.

I will say I like Clinton a hell of a lot more now than in office, he's doing some great things.

I still hate Al Gore on all aspects though, he's a tard.

*insert standard republican comments about Clinton interviews about Lewinsky*

studio 60 could turn out to be the best show on broadcast television.

Prison Break got old fast, I hate to say. It feels like a wanna-be MacGuyver/Fugitive hybrid most of the time.

I'll stick to The Unit, I really don't want to watch some show about what happens "behind the scenes" of some fictional tv world where most of the shit they churn out is the same shit we see on tv every day.

Oh and,

The Unit is the single most unrealistic show ever, even if it is depicting Delta. I still can't get over the fact they're using a fucking Corps cadence as the theme music for an army show, not to mention that they're acting on US Soil half the time.

Prison Break will go the way of 'Lost', an interesting concept with a built in short shelf life that anything past a second season is just grasping at straws.

Neither are a '24'. And that is why they fail.

Sports Night, especially after they dropped the laugh track and got more snarky, was one of the best comedy shows to ever be shown on television. Smart writing and thoughtful commentary-- you didn't have to like sports to enjoy the show. I loved it.

Oh, I'm not saying I don't *like* The Unit, I just think that there are better shows out there in its time slot.

What cadence would that be? Because alot of them transfer over from service to service. In all honesty i can only think of a handful or so that would be 'Corps' specific cadenences, that I havent heard other services use...

Fired Up, Feels Good which unless things have changed, was exclusively USMC.

Thats not the whole thing is it..? Cause thats a common mid-liner between and to mix up different cadences...

It's simple, Bush didn't run against Clinton. He would have lost. Now how he Gore in the first election shocked me, but I'm not surprised he won reelection against Kerry at all.

Kerry is far more likeable than Gore. While I found the 2000 election to be a shock, the second term elections were even more of a shocker to be honest.

It will be interesting in Nov for midterm elections, that's for sure.

I just hope Lugar stays in office, he does a lot of good.

I was going to start a post about this show last night but I had work I had to do.

I really liked the show and I loved that actress in the movie A Lot Like Love. It is one of my favorite movies.

A Lot like Love was pretty good /nod. But in this show, she isn't pulling off the "I'm a tough badass CEO" as well as I would like. Too much smiling, or something-- I'm not sure.

Saw this again Monday, and once again enjoyed it very much. 2/2 -- I'll be watching it every week now for this season.

I wanted to like this show, because I'm a huge fan of the West Wing. But this show was just way too fucking cheesy and didn't seem authentic enough. Not surprised to see it failing.
