The whole thing, plus they still throw in the free month. Pretty swanky sirs and sirettes.

yeah ive been getting emails from them about this for a while now. But i just finished my Mythical (legendary in wow terms) weapon quest and raid a bit in EQ2 atm. So i guess when eq2 loses its shine ill check out lotr and be a bit more focused about it. they have this special going on every few months.

I decided to give the trial a shot with a couple friends after reading your post, and all I can say so far is the spirit of Turbine is alive and well... their free trial sign up process appears to be broken cause none of us can make an account without getting an "error: go back and pick a new username" and one of my friends had his download get corrupted and is redownloading the whole thing now!

Maybe it's just a conspiracy to make you say fuck it and just buy it for $10.

I had some issues with their non-Download Manager clients. They have a specific Turbine Download Manager that worked fine though.

They're advertising 10 bucks to upgrade to Moria too with a free 30 days. What they don't tell you is you have to resub to register the key so it's actually 25 bucks.

I cancelled my Warhammer online a long time ago and in febuary/march they re-activated it out of the blue and charged my credit card. I had to re-cancel it after seeing the charge on the credit card statement and had to dispute the charge to get my money back.

I don't trust Mythic, there's no way I'm gonna subscribe to another one of their game.

Anyone have a brief rundown on the classes/races in the game?

Post subject:  Re: Lord of the Rings Online is $10

Elves, Dwarves, Men, Hobbits

Guardian - Classic tank, low offense high defense
Champion - Offensive tank
Minstrel - Healer/Utility/Buffs
Burglar - CC/DPS/Debuff
Hunter - Range DPS. travel utility
Captain - Medium tank, pet class, utility.
Loremaster - CC/Debuffs, small heals, nukes, power batteries.
Runekeeper - Can nuke/heal, new class. Not sure what else!
Warden - A new class that can apparently solo stuff other classes can't but isn't that great in a group environment. Supposed to be a medium armored tank.

Allegedly burglars are all but useless according to 2 guys I chatted with at the gym.

Brandywine was the most populated last I checked but that could have changed considering I played pre-expansion mainly.

Oh, now your gonna play lotr neesha? Sheesh, get me ready to start eve after I bail on my lotr trial and now you switch?

When I played lotr trial at the start of the month it was very empty. Pretty much a "bring your own friends or be lonely" thing. I still have it installed if you stay after the trial, will fire it up.

Eve sort of lost its appeal when I had to pay a large ransom to keep from being podded. I don't think I could continue to play and have that happen every week. :P

If you are careful, it won't happen every week!

Fly in empire space and you won't encounter pirates. :P If you're missioning there's no reason to go below 0.5.

They held you for ransom and didn't pod you after you paid? Those are some pretty fail pirates.

Post subject:  Re: Lord of the Rings Online is $10

Here's the ransom story, if anyone is interested:

In Eve, I had just purchased a Domi for 52 million and fit it with a bunch of fancy crap (including 2 rigs that were 15 million each). I hadn't even used it in a mission yet when I was doing a mission in my Megathron and got attacked by 4 pirates (I was in 0.4 space, since that is where the mission told me to go, and I had been there several times before without incident). The 'leader' of the pirates told me they would spare me if I paid them 80 million isk. Of course, I didn't have the ISK since I had just purchased/fitted the Domi a few days earlier, and I told him "I only have 11 million ISK, I just bought a Domi." I didn't think it would hurt to tell him I had bought the Domi until he said, "then just contract the Domi to me and we'll call it even."

So he gave me a choice, I could contract the Domi to him right then and there and he and his buddies would let me live (possibly), or I could be stubborn and have them blow up my Megathron (which had two 25 million ISK rigs on it and 6 weapons that I paid 11 million each for) and blow up my pod (losing my implants that I probably paid 100 million for). I chose to take the chance that he was honorable and contracted the Domi to him (I was able to strip all of the weapons off of it before giving it to him, but of course, I lost the rigs). He and his buddies then bid me a good day and left so I was able to warp out with my imaginary tail between my Megathron's proverbial legs.

I may not quit (I paid for 3 months in advance) but it definitely showed me the uglier side to the game. Since I play pretty casually, that was quite a blow to the old pocketbook, and I got off pretty easy. So I am just thinking it's only a matter of time before I get my ass handed to me hardcore, but we'll see. I'll just have to find a safer place to do missions if I decide to stick around.

Post subject:  Re: Lord of the Rings Online is $10

there are plenty of L3 and L4 missions in high sec. the rewards aren't as good, but the risk isn't as high either.

the only time I've been killed by pirates was in 0.6 space, so I tend to stay in .7 or higher now.

Been duo-ing with a friend as a LM+Warden combo, a lot of fun and have a decent shot at taking down a lot of 'recommended group' content.

I'm starting to wonder why I pay for 10 meg cable internet when the vast majority of downloads seem to be like the one I'm seeing downloading LOTR at currently.

500kbps.

Post subject:  Re: Lord of the Rings Online is $10

that's probably more to do with them than your ISP /shrug -- they probably rate limit downloads to save themselves the bill.

also, you're probably getting 500 kiloBYTEs per second, when you pay for 10 megaBITs. 500 kilobytes is 4 megabits (approx), so you're getting a pretty good speed =P

Post subject:  Re: Lord of the Rings Online is $10

I started on Brandywine as a Hobbitt Minstrel. Very pretty and immersive world, nice music and a lot of random activity in the background to make it seem like you're really in another land. Makes the static crap you see in wow pale by comparison.

The UI is kind of meh, as is the chat and quest system. Oddly enough, I have the same complaint about LOTRO that I did about EQII = the graphics seem to render and re-render themselves from basic quality to high quality as I approach.

For example a boar would look plain from a distance then magically spawn more details, then a shadow the closer I got. The background goes from basic trees and whatnot to more and more detailed as I get closer with each level of new detail obviously and annoyingly snapping into existence. Whoa more leaves! Now the lighting shows! Now a bush below it! This is with almost all the settings maxxed by using "detect optimal settings" I get this even at fairly close distances so even buildings and hillsides go from basic graphics to more and more and more details rather than simply showing up all nice in the first place. Had the same issue w/eqII

LOTRO also causes my computer to BSOD randomly. First night I played 4 hours w/out a problem. Next day a BSOD reboot. Last night a BSOD reboot out of nowhere while playing. That may not be the games fault tho. I always get "the disk has a bad block" as the error in the event manager. I think my HDD controller on the board is still acting stupid even after RMA. It was giving those errors on my raptor, now on the new 500gb drive as well.

I was getting BSOD's at the beginning as well, think the game is sound card intensive...I updated the drivers on mine and have been BSOD free since.

When it came out they didn't have in-game maps and quest indicators. Actually getting lost in the Old Forest while running into other people equally lost was an adventure. Looking at the map it's a pretty simple grid though. >.>

I'll have to check on that. I don't get game BSOD's from WoW, so that may be the problem. It seems tho whenever I get a wtf Bsod out of nowhere windows always claims "my disk has a bad block". I find it extremely hard to believe I've had 3 bad HDD's on this one puter.

They need to redo a bit of the text box sizes and fonts and whatnot. It's very hard to read those teeny ass quest things. That and I didn't realize that minstrels were like the primary healer class lol.

It's like DDO. You don't have access to every quest / area unless you purchase that area (then it's unlocked forever for your account) or pay the price per month.
