Do these things still exist?

I remember when I got my first computer in my teens, my first 2 games were Gunship 2000 and F19 Stealth Fighter.
Classics.

Then there was an explosion of flight sims shortly after that. The various Jane's series games (Longbow 2 ruled), the various F16 and F18 fighters, the WW2 sims (Red Baron), you name it. It was a flight sim overload in the late 80s / early 90s.

Now, I can't find shit in a games store.
Am I missing out on anything? Has this type of computer game completely died, or is there a gem out there I'm missing?
All I'm seeing is the civvy flight sims such as Microsoft Flight Simulator. Bleh.

*edit* - meh, just noticed there's a non-MMOs forum for PC Games. Any mod care to toss this one over there? Thx.

They are going to be releasing 'add-on' packs that include aircraft such as the A-10 and others (that is the only one confirmed for the moment)

The market has been taken over the Ubisoft's Russian office pretty much. These are the same people who made IL-2 Sturmovik and Lock On: Modern Air Combat, which are both very good flight sims.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention that the DCS: Blackshark Sim is EXTREMELY complex and I highly recommend completing every one of the training missions before even attempting to fly online or in the realistic modes. But the good news is that there is a mode for non-flight sim junkies that it's like playing on a console, which is also very fun.

Eli - lol. I'm mid-house purchase at the moment (we get the keys May 28th, woopwoop), so things are hectic and only allowing me to play *very* casually. Free time? What's that? :p So I'm afraid I won't be playing FFXI for a long while. It's EQ1 and 2 for me, for now. Maybe not even that after next month - we'll see. But you have my email address, you big gay. Josobu - complexity isn't an issue. I used to love games like Falcon 4 and Longbow 2 that were *not* easy and were quite punishing if you screw up. Gave a serious amount of realism and made you actually learn the aircraft, instead of these modern day arcade-style games that do it all for you. I'll check that one out, thanks.

If you're not adverse to a space flight sim, try one of the Star Wars sims or Wing Commander or Freespace 2.
