In 2 Naxx runs, I fully outfitted another character. All other games I can not keep focus on because the goals are so short sighted and offer nothing in terms of long time planning and desire. Raiding in WoW just feels like I'm taking up someones spot who actually wants to be there.

I'm going to see how far I get while 2boxing. Starting at the beginning. No pre-help or gil.

I wonder what adventures I will have along the way. I wonder who I will meet, who I will ally with and who I will conflict with.

I set out into an uncharted land where few dare enter and none return from.

Goodbye forever.

Nah, in all seriousness yeah i'm gonna play this piece of shit again and probably write about it here. I may even take some pics.

I think it's the challenge factor Leo. It's still a hard game, even with a ton of changes they have made over the past 5 or so years.

It just offers a long term goal to work on, compared to WoW where I have about two months worth of content to look forward to once a year, twice if I'm lucky. Every time I log in to raid in WoW, it just feels like I am taking a raid spot from someone who actually wants to be in the raid. And I mean really, it is pretty silly that the worlds top mmorpg only has one days worth of raid content avalable.

And the sad reality of that statement is, it will still be true come Uldar. Nobody will go back into Naxxramus, no point in it.

Somebody came along and stole the carrot off the stick. I'm just going to go find another carrot that will last a lot longer.

And what better place to look that the most cruel, unforgiving bitch out there today. Now to add on that, I have ragged on this game pretty hard. They did a lot of stupid shit at the beginning that works for asians who love to slam their nuts in a window, but it just doesn't dig here in the states. I've gone over the crazy amount of updates and stuff they have had and it actually sounds so much more fun now. More exp for killing certain level con of mobs make it so soloing isn't such a pain in the cockhole I've read. And it is lower population now, so maybe it wont be as bad as it was from the way back. I plan to 2 box so really I won't be in areas where all the big parties go.

I know Elidrin played not too long back. I'd like to hear how his 2nd run went.

I have zero plans at all to play at raid level. Shit sounds more rough than anything we delt with in EQ concerning contested mobs.

Far as I remember yeah. Console people don't have to worry about jumping through hoops by editing registry values to force resolutions higher than 1024. for backgrounds and 800 for the windows.

Basically, yeah.

Playing WoW right now is like that time when you bought a Game Genie to beat all those NES games that were too hard. You haxxed your way into 99 lives and the Super Mega Gun and then 5 minutes later said, "Well, this is boring."

Fuck all that garbage. Kraken Club got moved to a BCNM, and reading on so did a lot of high desirable items. I don't give a rats ass about raid mobs. They can have that bullshit.

Aparently once you hit 50 or so, everyone moves to that Alt A'asguioahtgpouirhetoiurhtuwhetg expansion or whatever. So old world should be a ghost town.

FFXI is definitely something worth looking into, I've gone back to it off and on =/ To be honest, I never got past level 30 before I got bored the first time. There are a number of things to love about it I just wish other MMORPGs would try.

I'm looking forward to Square's announcement this year as to what their new upcoming MMO will be =) /sigh, unfortunately that also means it's a few years off from release.

I played the demo a while back. I'm not so good at RTS, even the resource capture ones like CoH and DoW. I can't even finish Dawn of War II without getting tired and nearly falling asleep.

I'd have to agree with this 100%. I enjoyed FFXI for about 30 levels, then I just got tired of playing by myself. The game was real hard, at least tanking was for me. Took a lot of effort to keep my gear up to date, and the sub classes up with my level too. I cant think of any glitches when I played, there is a ton of working content and a lot to see and do. I had no idea there was a free trial for the game, ill be checking it out tonight.

Saved someone a google search, maybe.

I keep trying to find a reason to get back into FFXI. If I could find a place that just had all the patch notes or a place that listed what has changed for the better, I might try it. I did like the difficulty of the game for sure.

Thankfully you can change all that shit from the FFXI Config now. I finished updating right as the servers went down this morning.

Is Windower still used or did they ever allow alt-tabbing without crashing the client?

That's the good windower. The SE way is shit still.

Changing resolutions via the config utility only gives you ancient video settings to work with. here is how to get more bang for your buck.

Just make sure that when you do the changes, you make sure you are changing decimal values, not hex. You have to manually click the decimal bubble in each value every time you make a change.

This also includes the yes/no 0/1/2 changes for like Bit Mapping and stuff. Those you can change with the regular old configure tool, but I dont know if it resets your resolutions or not.

Shit, before I forget.

Not all, but some combination of 8800s or better and Vista make this game hell to even start. You might want to go into the config utility and turn on the simple character creation animations. I dont know what it is, but it causes the latest Nvidia shit to lock up. Other than that, game is fine on Vista64 so far.

i) Open the Registry Editor.
ii) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\SquareEnix\FinalFantasyXI
iii) Change values for the keys '003' and '004' to hex values equivalent to the desired resolution in decimal. For example, a resolution of 2048x2048 means you want both of the keys 003 and 004 to equal decimal value 2048, which is 800 in hex.

NOTE: 800 (i.e., 2048x2048) is the highest value supported by the engine, PERIOD, and any acceptable value MUST be a multiple of 100. The engine will just crash if you try anything else.

Got that info from vnboards. Is this wrong? For 003 and 004 i changed the hex values and it says 2048x2048 is the size now. Still have not finished patching so i cant see if it works. Kind of afraid now that it may screw something up.

001 and 002 are your window resolution. Like the menus, chat box and shit.

003 and 004 is the background, the actual playfield. The higher you can make this, the better. You have to play around a bit with it because you'll be dealing with resolutions that aren't native, especially widescreen. You might have to change the aspect ratio a few times in game.

Try 003 = 2560 and 004 = 2048

This is turning out to be as frustrating as I remembered.

Can't register my 2nd account because PlayOnline is a piece of shit. No way of knowing what services are up, and which are down. I love the vague "Server is busy or you entered incorrect information" error. How much more vague can you get. I'm going to assume that after trying my own, and my wifes check card, plus a credit card that I got the information wrong all three times.

S/E logic and all.

And I don't want to play unless I can roll with the 2 box. I don't want to play catch up even if it's early in levels.

Maybe if you called them and jump through enough hoops with the Return to Vana'dal thing. But good luck. When I did it last time, I had to have ancient credit cards that were old enough to be twice expired.

And they wont think twice about telling you to go piss up a rope and buy a new box. My brother had all his codes at the time and they wouldn't let him have his shit back because he couldn't tell them his old email.

I had some issues registering for the Trial but that was likely because of the maintenance yesterday.

As for changing the resolution and all that jazz, Windower wouldn't work..I kept getting disconnected from the server everytime I tried it. Instead, I set the background resolution and windowed mode with the config tool then went and did the regedit for the other. It seems to be running a lot smoother now.

Got the client patching now, gonna get some sleep. If you guys come to a consensus on a server post it here and I'll head that way.

Then the only question that remains is to taru or not to taru...

I can't play anything else. random roll of the dice threw me on Midgardsormr.

I have no idea what population is like. You can select any server you want to start on. Except Odin and one more because of crazy overpopulation.

I have no idea about putting anything together.

I picked up the Vana'diel Collection 2008 for 14.99 at Gamestop. Figured that's a great price for all the expansions, and I wasn't gonna go through trying to do all those damn codes again. The collection is 1 code for all the expansions and PlayOnline. So glad they fixed that nonsense.

Is THAT was that was? I was always wondering why I had to play the damn pc version at some Pos resolution because PS2 couldn't handle the higher ones.

I don't know the console specs, but i remember the PS2 version was noticeably inferior to the PC one. Partly because of the shit hard drive for the PS2 i'd bet.

the 360 version looks pretty spanky. They probably jumped up the background res a lot. Thats where you see the game looking better, the textures dont cut off as bad in the high rez.

I think I'd still prefer the PC version anyway, even though I do play it with a wireless XBOX 360 controller. Anyway, I'll be starting up tonight, hopefully everything is working fine.

First step is to make my old Taru panic macro, then try and re-orient myself to the game. So much new crap in the game, don't understand half of it.

If you are starting anew, check out the Field of Valor stuff I mentioned. There is a book, probably by the outside zone ins to home cities. In windurst I know there are two books in West Saurwotgyhqtpoihgoihs whatever. You talk to it and get like a daily quest for super gils and exp. It's amazing. There are leveld tiers of it as well and the reward gets better.

You get tabs that you can spend for hour long buffs like protect, shell, reraise, and OH MY GOD REFRESH. They last an hour.

That happened later.

Apparently there is a super secret law or some shit that you can not have more than 3 accounts linked to any one bank account. I don't know if it is true, but thats what I gather.

So yeah, my wife and I played and of course linked those 2 accounts to our bank account. I buy one new copy day before yesterday and it's good to go. I try to open the second one after finally getting out of lazy ass mode because yeah, that PlayOnline sign up is that damn bad and it blocks me. With their system, if you get cockblocked on your CC, you have to wait 30 mins to try again or it will auto fail you. This isn't told anywhere on their site or int he error message.

I ended up just throwing it on the dummy CC that i use for buying bullshit with since I don't like to carry cash or a checkbook. Works like a champ that way.

What a lot of hoops.

Really, some of the names are impossible to say, let alone spell. Sarutabaruta is one of the easier ones.

Just looked up the Fields of Valor on the wiki. That's a pretty nice addition.

Oh hey you fuckers are on my server. My mithra's name is Avelle so look me up. I should be on all day today. I'll be happy to help you guys out and shit when I'm able. I reactivated back in Oct 2007 and I enjoy it a lot more than I do WoW, Givin. It's a lot of work to get all your subjobs leveled and missions done but it was pretty fun doing it.

edit: Didn't realize my FFXI tag in my sig said retired. :P

Oh and http://www.ffxiah.com/ is a pretty good site. It tracks the main auction house linked to Jeuno/Whitegate/Tavnazia, not the cities.

I'll be on today as well. Looked for Avelle but couldn't find ya. UI is clunky as ever, or I'm just not acclimated yet.

Man, Windurst, Bastok and Sandy are all three wiped clean on newbie gear.

Everything is in Jeuno now more than ever I take it.
