Anyone know of any MMORPGs in development that look intriguing? I haven't played one since early beta Vanguard but would like to find one.

Star Trek
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Darkfall (Anyone want to laugh?)
Lineage III
The Agency
Ramayan 3392 A.D.
DC Universe Online
Champions Online
Unknown Blizzard MMO (Suppose to be named next Bliz-Con I believe)

Just to mention...
Starcraft II
Diablo III

If you are looking forward to playing something "new", play Warhammer if you ant PvP, and World of Warcraft for PvE.

Aion, but it will probably be a disappointment.

I remember reading on FoH I think it was, someone described it as Lineage 2 with bigger tits and wings.

That isn't so bad I guess.

I didn't mind Lineage II that much. Cool soundtrack and characters but, the point and click movement is something I can't handle.

Fortunately Aion won't be point and click movement. The option is there, but so is wasd like WoW.

I'm not impressed so far with Aion from what I've read. Classes look like the most generic I've seen out of any MMO.

Eh, I don't really see anything wrong with them. Don't think they're much worse than WoW to be honest.

WoW's certainly weren't great classes to begin with either although they did incorporate some nice abilities and mechanics. I just look at Aion and I see run of the mill stuff when, IMO they need to take a risk and step outside the WoW mold. It almost looks like a carbon copy of your standard MMO. The claim to fame is supposed to be that they've syncing up PVE and PVP content? This has been attempted before. I'm just not seeing anything particularly exciting about Aion after watching the videos and such =/

To borrow a line I saw on the MMORPG forums, I think we've entered a dark age of MMOs. We're stuck with the same stuff, and the future is bleak. I eagerly hope for a renaissance.

http://www.jumpgateevolution.com/ - An Eve clone. Not sure if there is anything unique to make it stand out.

http://www.darkfallonline.com/ - Apparently its skill system is similar to eve's in that any character can learn any skill but it's set in a basic dnd fantasy environment instead of space.

Darkfall is the PvP game a lot of the PvPers are waiting for. I need to see good feedback before I try it. I'm very happy with Warhammer for RvR/PvP atm

Darkfall is going to be such a giant train wreck. I can not wait for it to be released over here and read all the awesome as the tears and shit flow freely when people get their entire inventory looted and yell exploit at one another.

Yup. In short, there's nothing new that's any good in the pike.

Maybe the KOTOR MMO but that's a long way off.

The way I hear it gear isn't going to be nearly as important in that game as in other games. Not like they are the first game to let people loot their pvp kills either.

And that is why it's going to be a beautiful train wreck. Naked gangs of casters roaming the land filling up their packs on the loot of the stupid and people with no friends.

Just like old times.

They could balance it by making casters as gear dependent or more gear dependent than melee but who am I kidding, you are surely right. Only the most hardcore pvp players will want to put up with rules that let them lose everything they are carrying unless gear is so unimportant and cheap that they aren't set back hours, days, or weeks worth of gear farming by dieing to some naked people.

That other game I mentioned looks like an old school x-wing mmo.

Jumpgate Evolution is actually a sequel of Jumpgate classic, which was around before Eve. It looks like a great game, and I'm probably gonna give it a try. I love space sims, and mmos, so what could possibly go wrong with a space sim mmo? :D And no, Eve is not a space sim! I played the original's free trial, and the idea was cool - the only problem was the player population was almost non existant. I am guessing this game will be a bit more substantial. :P

Anyways, here are some links videos and pictures for your perusal!

Player pop nonexistent in EVE? When did you play? I always see people online when I bother to login, and Jita is so full it crashes!

I loved the old EA space MMO, Earth and Beyond. Hope it is similar. Eve is basicly a MMO where the UI is the challenge, not much else. Hence botting = win everytime and RL time = leveling. Not much fun IMO.

You never left high-sec, did you?

Few things in EQ got my pulse up like carting five billion isk in cargo across Goon and BoB 0-sec.

You never knew if you were being passive-scanned, or prepped for an assault.

Eve was pretty fun in the brief time that I played it. Fighting npcs was pretty easy as long as your ship was anywhere near good enough to take the rats out. Just load up the highest range weapons you can find along with the best engines and a mini warp drive for dashing around and you can just kite most npcs down. My one major problem was always the point and click movement. Bigger fights are about who brings the most cheap ships to guard their titan instead of who has the best pilots.

Joystick control and realistic physics in a space combat mmo will be refreshing. In the video I posted near the end you see the guy drift into the big ship because he approached it too fast and at a bad angle so he ends up getting dragged into it by his own momentum and he explodes instead of just getting pushed back like would happen in Eve. Amazing stuff.
