Anyone able to furnish a buddy pass? Need two of them. My girlfriend and I need something to do over the summer (paperwork didn't go through in time for the reserves). Would be appreciated.

I'll PM you my e-mail, either PM me or leave a reply here if you're able.

You must be extremely boring if the girl propose video games as an activity.

That's not all we do. But compared to everything else we do, it's cheap.

Started on Hillsbury. Lesser Giant Shadowknight (whatever it's called), barbarian Shaman duo.

Most of the game seems half-finished to me. Looks like she's addicted to Diplomacy. I'm still pondering how they managed to throw Brad & Co. in a room and come up with DAoC meets WoW over EQ's dead body.

You are about a month and a half behind. Everyone else has already moved on.

Personally I finally got bored of it... but for 3 reasons -

1) Limited PVP, no talk of future battlegrounds any time soon
2) Not enough players in general, especially at higher levels. The game world often feels semi-abandoned
3) Not enough endgame content. Level 40-50 dungeons were there and ready to go from a crawling standpoint, but many of them had very few if any quests associated with them. There are neither very many group quests nor solo quests from 40-50.

IMO it has a lot of things going for it(some of which I outlined in a different post). The 14 different classes are actually surprisingly balanced on careful examination. A good many challenging encounters and really awesome itemization(particularly for the quest rewards). Some of the quests, particularly the group dungeon quests, are quite enjoyable with a good group. Crafting brings back memories of the UO days where you can get right into the game and straight up craft your way to the top of the food chain. Never did diplomacy, but heard it was pretty nice as well in this respect. Housing and Boats that are not simply sold by NPC's, but actually crafted by people really adds a pretty cool roleplaying feel to the game.

The game has a number of flaws, but I'm a little surprised when I see people play the game for a few days and say it's complete crap. I mean, you literally could not have seen 1/100th of the basic gameplay content. It's like reading the first page of Moby Dick and declaring the book is trash. At LEAST do some of the level 20 group content and a few of the quests.

He may have played for a short time, but his characterization of the game as...

seems about right to me as far as overall feel of the game goes.

If that's the case I must have missed out on some incredible PVP.

Lol, I wish that were the case. At least that would be a point in VGs favor.

Instead you get what (to me) are all the negatives from both games and few of the positives. Completely and easily soloable from start to finish, a surplus of meaningless quests that are for the most part cliche fetch and carry or slaughter. A continuous world that due to its massive size makes you feel as though you are the only person in miles. A world that while visually impressive, lacks life.

Compared to WoW, everything will feel empty. It's hard to imagine that at its peak, EQ had 450,000 players. There always seemed like a TON of player. Maybe that's because there were only what, 20 servers? WoW has... 150?

EQ always felt full because of its use of zones (something that I didn't care for to begin with, but now actually enjoy). WoW obviously has a ton of people, but it also helps that the world is not actually that big (original world, I have yet to see the expansion).

VG erred in starting with such a huge world (and imo, too many races). It scattered the few players it had far too much to engender any sort of community or even a sense that you weren't alone in the world unless you were in a city.

The number of WoW servers is even more amazing than that, I think. The WoW server list on the North American website is around 150 servers. They have whole other lists for every major market around the world.

Looking at the population numbers on fansites, there are what-- 10,000? accounts per server at most? Possibly it's even less, but let's assume even more. With 20,000 unique accounts per server, it would take 400 servers to service the 8 million subscriber number tossed around these days.

Yeah I think a big part of EQ's success was concentrating people into small spaces, where the game felt populated. For better or worse... I know some places ended up overcrowded, but if every zone were the size of Dreadlands I don't think EQ would have been very successful.

VG needs to fix LFG and allow group ports, 30 minutes to go from one continent to another for a group sucks.

My gripe was the game turned from a pile of shit, to something playable, to an even bigger pile of shit.

Is Turbo's guild still going on Hillsbury? Am curious to hear what the raid content is like if they're at that point. Failing that, second/third hand info from other guilds who've gotten that far would be interesting.

Well, they had to put in a command that lets someone dictate where loot goes as a "fix" to not having any raid setup whatsoever, if that tells you where their raid content is going.

Meaning that they never progressed out of the one group kill credit horseshit of origional EQ.
