Well City of Villains is almost here (1 more month), is anyone planning on playing? I was playing City of Heroes yesterday after so many months and it's actually pretty cool still, they have added plenty of new costumization tools for your character and new noises on different grounds when walking/speed walking. No clue if they're adding servers or not, but I'm planning on playing on Virtue or Victory. <

Newsletter just arrived with awesome news:<

No extra monthly fee for playing CoV or CoH together. They will each be $15 and together also $15. The comic is now digital too, you may view it from their website and download it. <

Good news indeed.

I have been playing the Beta and it is a very fun game, quite a bit different than playing a hero. New archtypes and several new villain power sets and so many new costumes. Already have it preordered as well. Your reptilian friend<

They did something right with city of heroes, because for some reason I want to buy this game just to make a few supervillains of my own. <img src="http://www.botepidemic.com/frikbot/q1mons/enforcer.jpg" border=0 alt="I'm An Enforcer! Well i was kinda miffed about the delay on the pre-order beta invites but snagged the fileplanet stress test free signups anyway. So far i'm liking the mastermind AT, if it keeps up over the next couple days i may just go ahead and buy it since i've already got CoH. Edited by: BrindalayShadowlace at: 10/14/05 2:24 pm<

I have a lvl 29 Necromancer mastermind and a lvl 22
ute. The Mastermind class requires alot of control, I have 6-8 pets up at any given time and coordinating them and keeping them alive takes alot of work. Brutes are more relaxing because I just beat up stuff and pound it into the dirt. The no increase in cost for the two games is awesome as well. Your reptilian friend<

Read about the stress test Friday, and since I had nothing else planned for the weekend...I went and downloaded it from Fileplanet. <
>
<
>
Anyways, other then wasting a lot of time trying the variety of toons...I wasted a lot of time rebooting because my system would hang when I entered some missions. I couldn't trace it to anything specific, but the 'safe mode' worked so I imagine its a driver issue or something. <
>
<
>
I managed to get 1 toon to lvl10(my god, I forgot how annoying dark energy and fire bosses are at the early levels), and as that happened late Sunday...I managed to have only a few hours to play with the SuperGroup and base features. Those look really cool! I wish I had a few more hours to play in the Arena...<
>
<
>
Lag was an issue until I tweaked down the video settings, the graphics are still pretty good though. It was better on the 'light load' server, but I figured since it was a Stress Test, why play on the sparse server. The costume design variety is still top-notch. I found myself re-creating toons over and over to get a look I liked. Other then the mission entry failing at times, I didn't run into any major bugs. <
>
<
>
All in all, I have moved from a 'nah I don't think so' into 'hmm, this could fill in some time' regarding purchase.<

You have to admit CoH/CoV has a lot of flair and style, just very redundant after lvl 35.

I like all the new things of Cov, the villain "blaster"(Corruptor) can heal, the villain "controller"(Dominator) can wtfpwn anything, the villain "Defender"(Mastermind) doesn't heal except their pets afaik, the villain "tanker"(Brute) Is a scrapper on steroids, and the stalker...no clue, haven't played one. <

Yeah, this game is ok, but its not 15 a month ok. Needs to be free to play, and you buy costumes, accessories, and stuff like that for your toon.<
>
<
>
Not a longevity game, just like CoH. Fun, but not so much fun it lasts.<
>
<
>
The one fee of 15 a month for both games will boost initial sales, but wont help keep the game around I dont think. The game, in the end is just boring. Its not fresh or anything past a certain point. CoV is no different and you will more often than not find yourself spending more time in the character creation screens than the actual game.<
>
<
>
Won't make a dent to take away any other games population, and I suspect it will pass under the radar rather quietly. But hey, they are still making Ultima Online expansions, so everyone is entitled to one I guess. <

Post subject: Bases...
PostPosted: Tue Oct 25, 2005 9:47 AM

Well bases is really one of the best things implemented in this game. The level of customization and things you can add to it will make base making take days and every minute be fun since there's about 10-12 different sizes with about 30 different types of rooms where you can put different things in each room. <
>
Examples: Hidden Base: 10x10<
>
Put in a teleport room, this room allows you to place teleportation devices to zones that you have explored thouroughly. Or put in a temple room where you can put Items of Power (IOP) which give you extra exp/dmg/resistance/strength/defense/etc when in Supergroup mode. These IOPs are artifacts that you get either by buying them or by achieving them through SG trials. <
>
<
>
BTW I hate masterminds =P They're a cluster in small instances and when going through doors.

I have been playing CoH for over a year now and still haven't gotten bored of it. I have a lvl 45 scrapper and 35 blaster. It gets really interesting at higher lvls. CoV has alot of different features and so far it seems to be alot of fun, though am only lvl 30 in it. The new classes and the pvp is pretty cool. But I can see how not everyone would like it, I just like the fact that its not a huge time sink like eq1 and 2. Your reptilian friend<

Post subject: Another thing...
PostPosted: Thu Oct 27, 2005 1:42 AM

As I've said before, the fact that you can truly fly in this game is enough to keep me playing. Super Jump is cool too, so it's the freedom of movement I enjoy.<
>
<
>
I realized recently another aspect of Heroes that keeps me from going back to any other game. Chasing gear. I hate it. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of my characters' abilities to be almost completely dependent on the quality of gear I happen to acquire. The side bonus to this is the ability to tailor your costume to your own liking and not have a mismatch of gear apparent.<
>
<
>
In Heroes, it's quickly and easily discernible if another player is clueless about the class they are playing. There's no gear to gimp down a fight of appropriate difficulty and it takes a solid team to get through many encounters. The problem is the proper application of enhancement slots to best effect. By example, it's frustrating to get an empathy defender in group only to find out their heals are severely lacking because they chose to heavily beef up their attacks instead.<
>
<
>
Yet another aspect of the game is that it's absolutely playable by the casual player as well as those with no time constraints. Most missions can be done in a half hour to an hour or you can join a task force that will take a number of hours. Granted there's not nearly as wide a range of enemies as can be found in just about any other game, but that's not an issue for me.<
>
<
>
For me, this game has the most fun to time invested ratio I've experienced in an MMO.<
>
<
>
Villains seems cool enough but I'm going to wait for the lag-fest of the first week or so to play out before jumping in. Then I'll have hours of fun getting to the point of creating the Hidden Lair of OMGzilla!<

Not a big timesink? hmm from what I remember when I used to play it took a damn long time to level in that game. Sure it is probably faster than EQ but the only thing slower than EQ would be FFXI so thats moot point.<
>
<
>
I had downloaded the beta when it came out on fileplanet but my graphics would mess up in the prison thus I got mad and deleted it. It felt like the same exact crap however with more costumes and different names. It is basically like DAOC, that each realm has pretty much the same classes with different names and a few changes to make em feel different.<
>
<
>
But then again I didn't really give it more of a chance. I do feel the urge to buy it every once in a while but eh I quit CoH in a month after getting lvl 21 so i'm a bit iffy.

hmm maybe so but how is the timesink still? Hell I'd love to buy CoV but from what I recall CoH took a damn long time since most classes didn't really solo well and finding a group, a good group that is, was hard.

Post subject: Re: City of Villains
PostPosted: Wed Jan 25, 2006 3:28 PM

I don't play it anymore due to a friend roping me back into playing WoW, but I had a level 36 Robot/Dark Miasma Mastermind and he could solo just fine. Only times I really grouped were with other members of my Villian Group, so I can't speak much for having to LFG. <
>
<
>
The only ones I remember hearing having trouble soloing a bit were Dominators, but they were pretty popular in groups so it wasen't too big of a deal.<
>
<
>
As for a timesink, it's not as bad as EQ was, but it takes longer then WoW I'd have to say. One good thing is there are hardly any street sweeping missions, and you never really run out of missions since you can just pull out a newspaper and go rob a bank/museum/lab or kill/kidnap someone, etc. I can count the number of "Kill X number of insertfactionhere" missions I got on one hand. Edited by: Doon Backfighter at: 1/25/06 4:33 pm<

One minor advantage CoV has over CoH is the distance traveled is typically a lot less. Most CoV missions have you in the same zone instead of 2 or 3 away. Therefore, a bit more time is spent leveling in the missions.<
>
<
>
If you manage to stay in groups of 6 to 8 people doing Invincible missions, the exp pretty much flies along. A good way to find those groups is to take blind invites, though most people seem to hate them. You can tell within the first few fights if it's a tight group or one that can't hold it together. On average, about 70% of the groups I end up in, either asked or blind invited, end up at least decent. Prophet of Vita Infinita - Retired<
