We are in the process of cleaning out my father-in-law's house and I came across a few boxes of what looks to be his mother & aunt's stamp collection. There are possible thousands of stamps in these boxes. I would estimate that possibly half are foreign. Just thumbing through them I see a few 1896 stamps and some 1902 stamps.

Any advice on where to start? I don't think that there is anything super valuable here as most of them seem to be cancelled stamps. Still it would be nice to know more of what I have.

Thanks

Those guys are crooks, as is any pawn shop.

If you want a fair estimate on what your collection is worth, I think you pretty much need to research the stamps yourself, buy a stamp book and start going through it stamp by stamp.

Once you find stamps that may actually be worth something, then you will want to figure out the real value of it try google/ebay, and or then take the entire collection into a few dealers to get offers.
