Invite to what?

Google+. It's google's social networking site. Unfortunately, they don't support app accounts yet and I don't really have any interest in maintaining another google account.

I'm with Devyn. Until they support Apps users for Google Plus, I'll just pass.

It's Google's next attempt at social networking. How many times have they failed now?

Once, technically. They bought Orkut from another company, and Orkut is a resounding success in South America (esp Brazil)

Wave wasn't social networking, it was collaboration. Buzz was their fail at Social. Plus looks a lot better, since you have to organize friends into groups from the very start. But they may have hurt themselves pretty bad by not including Apps users from the start.

Terrible naming, too. Try searching for Google + on google and the search engine thinks you are trying to use the + to combine terms.

It's good that they fail at some things.

Fail might not be the right word.

The word "plus", typed into a Google search, causes it to look for + signs attached to the word before "plus", attached to the word after "plus", and spaced between them as an independent "word".

So, searching for "Google plus" gets you Google+ results.

Ever think that they might have done it on purpose?

I'd hardly call Google+ a failure at this point. People are talking about it, it is making news, it is pretty slick to use, and it is backed by GOOGLE. I doubt it replaces Facebook but I could definitely see it sticking around (and maybe even replacing Twitter). As far as the name goes, I searched for Google+ and here is the result:



Perhaps you're just doing it wrong.

FWIW, I'm really liking it so far. It takes all of your Google services and makes them all a much more social experience.

It doesn't have groups or pages or apps the way Facebook does (yet, at least), so it's a much cleaner, less spammy experience.

what happened to Goggle wave?

Google Wave was an amazing piece of technology that no one could figure out what to do with it.

Google killed Wave, but rolled some of the collaborative features into Google Docs.

Aren't invites suspended? Or can you send out invites again?

Google Docs is cool, we have integrated it with the Online Print application that we have (FedEx).

Google plus solves limitations in Flickr *and* Facebook for me.

The circle implementation and photo sharing is pretty sweet.

Yeah, it worked for a while.

I hear it's open again, so sending out invites.

Maybe I missed the window again, but it's not working for me.

It's "closed" again. I must say they are being pretty stupid about the invites.

Yeah I got the invite (thanks!!) but still showing as closed, no biggy I can wait.

ThHey are being weird about invites this time around, it was not this way with Gmail. Oh well.

It appears Google doesn't use a global enable/disable switch for sign-ups (which earlier posts have implied). I had a few friends yesterday who tried to get in, all of whom I had invited that day, but only one of whom got in. The others tried to log in before and after the guy who had success.

I'm sure there's a method to their madness.

Unlikely. Another Lanys person (Gost) tried to get in on 3 accounts. 2 said no. The third let him in.

If you're not in yet and you want to be, just keep trying the invite links you have is all I can say. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to who gets in and who doesn't.

You don't "have" a certain amount of invites. If you have Google+, you can simply invite people from there.

I got a google+ account and never checked it again. I'm waiting for it to replace facebook before I pay attention to it. Heh. I can only keep track of one social network at a time.

It already has in my social circles. Facebook was latered in a big way.

Nope, but few companies have both the access to such disparate pieces of information OR have such a bad track record with it as Google.

Sadly, Facebook is one of those few.
