I just wanted to know how long it had been since I'd visited (two years, Jesus) and wound up reading some of my older stuff.

If you go back and look at how you talked to people up to six years ago, I bet you'll want a time machine and a sock full of oranges to go back and beat the douche out of yourself.

I can't go back that far. I was playing from 1999 on, but I only discovered this board in like 2003 or something (I don't know why my account says I joined in 2005 - that's really weird).

Yeah, all of the really bad drama happened before the EZBoard crash.

The only good thing that came from the forum moves and the spam attack was all of my old posts getting wiped.

Whatever happened to ezboard anyway? I know for a while this forum was the #1 traffic for them and they went a long time with cutting us deals. Once their system exploded, did they just pack up and go home?

I think once their system exploded we decided to take it off ezboard and host it elsewhere. It had been an idea bandied about for almost a year before the crash gave us a reason to move.

they developed yuku. an abomination of social networking/forums that should not exist.

ezboard, for what it was, was a really great service. they just had tunnel vision with regards to actual physical backups and relied far too much on RAID.

God, if I had a nickel for every time I had to tell a client (or peer) that redundancy is for uptime, and BACKUPS are for BACKUPS. Assholes.

"Well, if we have redundancy, what's the backup for?" To be restored at some point.
"But when would we restore it?"
When the redundancy fails.
"Why would it fail? It's redunancy."
...You're why we take backups.
