ok-- I don't have Internet at home because I'm rarely there and I do fine using the Internet at my job.

At the moment I'm sitting in a sports bar with free wifi. I can connect to this website almost instantaneously. But... I can't connect to almost anything else. It moves very slowly if at all, and most of the time websites are timing out.

I'm baffled that this website would work fine while the others I've tried all aren't working. Google, however, is also working fine.

Why do you think this is the case?

You may have this website stored in your internet cache on the computer your using, reason why this site loads faster then others.

That's not technically valid. At least, it's very unlikely. Some graphics would be cached, but the content is always generated on the fly. You'd have the domain name cached, but that would only speed up the initial access.

What's more likely is, there are different paths to access different websites. It's really no different than city traffic. Some roads will be more congested than others. The ISP used by the bar you were at likely had some congestion on some outbound paths.

I mooched for 2 years. They moved away. I'm rarely home so I just don't see the need to spend the money on Internet access that I won't often use.
