For lack of a better word, I used "ex pat", as if we've left our home country (Lanys/Everquest) and moved elsewhere. So I'm wondering what the latest game craze is these days for previous Lanys players?

I'd love to hear your feedback.

For myself, I haven't been gaming. First, I have slow speed internet, and most importantly, I haven't the time. I also haven't come across any games that's grabbed my interest. I guess there's a new genre of games that are web based. I tried Dark Warrior, but the slowness of the game bored me too quickly. Half an hour or hours for a response time is just way too slow. Even text based games (MUDS) during its hey days responded instantaneously. I'm guessing that Facebook's Farmville (which I have no interest in finding out what its about) is a web based game?

Oh well, sometimes I feel like the EQ world in which I lived during the early 2000's, was part of my real world. To this day I still have memories of Freeport, Nexxus, Hate Raids, Twilight Sea (good for dating -- romantic view) and friends with whom I travelled and fought, as if all these experiences were part of my real life. It's very strange trying to explain to a non gamer, but I'm sure you fellow Lanys citizens (or expats) understand. :-)

Best wishes wherever you're playing.

Aryianna

I know a few people playing Lord of Ultima. I haven't tried it, but I think it's a game like Evony (which is sort of like Civilization) and it is web-based.

Only thing I've been playing regularly these days is Magic: The Gathering Online.

*edit* I'll also say that I am positive that when September rolls around I'll be playing a lot of Civilization 5.

I mostly play poker- either online or at casinos. I also get into a Xbox 360 mode every now and then- this time it is working on Tetris Evolution achievements. Will probably move onto either finishing Orange Box, Dead Space... or start Oblivion or Alan Wake.

There is always a full "General" channel with an almost full "General1" channel and very often a half full "General2".

That's more than people online that when I stopped playing at any point in the day. Of course they merged servers so total population is less than before of course. I can't speak for Underfoot I never actually did the progression there since I came back not long ago. But items coming out of it are sick.

I usually do old man McKenzie Missions. Lot of XP (4.5 AA at lvl 85 or 5% regular XP at 82 this Xp will be completely nerfed in september) and around 2000Plat + 1 Brew which you can use to buy old items with upgraded stats (like a FBSS or Short Sword of Ykesha with 600ish HP). There is always a chest at the end with one item from that dungeon (SolB - Lower Guk Live side - Lower Guk Undead side). The reset time for the instances is 16 hour after completion. Need minimum 3 people with an average level of 80 in group to request an instance. Before entering you chose a Class and once inside you become a lvl 50 of that class with gear appropriate for the time (before Hate/Fear plane) and then you have to crawl the exact replicas of the dungeon and kill all the nameds. People with flag for having completed certain raids in SoD and other previous expansions have access to Nagafen and Vox raid.

I don't feel like starting work on progression in Underfoot because next expansion is gonna get released this fall and raise level cap to 90 so I'm just working on AA and gathering Plats and i'll work on House of Thule progression instead. There are quite a few guilds that raid 2 - 3 days a week which is perfect for me so I am starting to look for one before the expansion is released.

Plus I have to fight off the pestering or Hhugg and Turbo on a weekly basis trying to make me play EQ2 ehhe.

Wow raids 2 nights a week on Elune (Failure guild, priest Namstol), Dragon Age Origins: Awakening, Starcraft 2.

Edit:
Wanted to add that a good number of folks from Lanys(lol) came over to Elune. I think Mithril Web as a whole moved to Elune on launch along with 10 - 15 from various other guilds that started Failure back at launch. I don't remember the last time I saw anyone out of my guild though. I wonder if Mithril Web moved on to something else. I think a lot of Riders of the Apocalypse moved over too. I think my old EQ guild Oryx went Horde then switched a few times to alliance and back to horde but that was on a different server.

Mithril Web is still on the Elune server, anyone still on Elune send a tell I'm sure the members would like to hear from you. I don't know about anyone outside the guild that is still playing on Elune.

MW has players in a few games. I believe in EQ2 they are on Blackburrow and in Wow some of us are on the Horde Onyxia side. We started alliance on Elune but then splintered off as some wanted pve and some wanted pvp servers (back when that mattered). I don't know how many are still on Elune, but I know a few at least still play there. Onyxia has 6 or 7 old folks active and a bunch of fresh faces for 25 man ICC runs. I have a feeling (hopefully anyway) there will be a bit of a reunion when Star Wars comes out. I know at least 5 retired MW wow folks that are looking to play it with us again.

That brings up the point of how to pronounce it.

Lanys Pronunciation Guide
Syllables are spelled phonetically.

First syllable
Law (rhymes with saw)
La (as in Lad)
Leh (rhymes with meh)
Lay (rhymes with stay)

+

Second syllable
Nice (rhymes with ice)
Nees (rhymes with peas)
Nis (rhymes with this)
Neese (rhymes with geese)
Neez (rhymes with trees)

I always pronounced it LaNis.

I'm dicking around in EQ on Al'Kabor (the Mac server) which is capped at PoP. I mostly just log on to raid elementals (working on the Rathe and Coirnav!) three nights a week... working on a PhD program atm so I don't have time for much more than that.

Cool! What PhD program? I knew we could redirect that very heavily spent energy and talents from EQ to something even more productive (hehe, in other words, EQ wasn't a waste of time.)

League of Legends.

I've always pronounced it as one syllable. Like "Lands" with no d sound. Only would break the syllables out if I was saying the full Lanys T`Vyl as Lan - iss Ta - vil

Surprised how many people pronounced Lanys as one syllable, since the "y" is between two consonants.

In full, I always pronounced it Lan-niss Ti-vil.

I'm giving EQ a try again, the new expation sounds a bit interesting with the housing and all. I have a 70 Ranger Named Wildiiana on the old Lanys server, a bit lost in what to do and where to go, but learning slowly.

I did enjoy WoW but its gotten a bit boring after you hit top lvl not much to do but raid. I have a Hunter on Elune server in MW we have a few players still hanging there.

So anyone still playing EQ say Hi. or WoW have of hunter there the same. Wildiiana was my first toon when I started EQ way back when the Ranger Ivy armor was uber and the Raincaller was top bow for a Ranger.

EQ2 at the moment.

I tried out EQ1 for a bit (have a 75 Bard there; the ranger is long gone) but AA farming is boring and I haven't the time required for raiding; tried DDO for a bit, but the game is incredibly repetitious and a giant grindfest at endgame for top gear; and FFXI requires too much of a commitment to advance and see endgame.
Hence, EQ2.

Hi Ghanni, good to see you.. doing good here. just jumping from game to game trying to find something intersting to play again. Hope to see you again in some game. it seems like so many of the people I use to know in the games have disappered, really lost track of them. I kind of quit playing games for awhile after my sister passed away, finding it a bit hard to stay with one game, not sure if its due to not having people arouond I use to know or just really tried of the same old, same old in games.

well hope to see you again in a game.

Wild

Sorry to hear about your sister. I got tired of the constant dumbing down of WoW and didn't really want to get invested in any other game so I just goof around. I am going back to school and finishing up several certs that will help me with work.

Losing contact with the friends that were made in game is really the worst part of not playing. I miss hanging out with you, Dej, Stab, and all the other good friends that I had over the years.

Xolar, Zeronus, and I are playing EQ2 atm. We have been on Nagafen forever but PvP has gotten a little stale and Antonia Bayle server is booming at all hours. So we are bringing toons up on AB.

Duty is on EQI last I talked to him on whatever Lanys/7th is today.

I doubt we will deviate from EQ2 for awhile. Rift or EQNext will have to do it. We've tried everything and it ends up becoming so boring or intolerable after a month. RL pretty dominates everything though as I'm sure that is the case for almost everyone.

**UPDATE**
Been playing Rift quite a bit until the last couple of weeks. Rift is on the back burner a bit while we wait on updates and a few changes (plus we are just burned out). We are playing on Project 1999 right now and its about the most fun I have experience on a MMO in years.

Damn I have been game free for almost 6 months now. I stopped with EQ in December and WoW in May or so.

For some reason I've got the name Jaffirson associated with "Pally" in my mind, human in particular. Am I on to something or totally off my rocker?

I'm actually a little surprised that there are still a number of people playing from old Lanys. I hope you guys are playing casually at least =p Can't blame you though, EQ was a hell of a game to kickstart the genre.

I think you're correct, human pally rings a bell here as well.

I know, I think it's clogging my memory banks. I'm going to need to take up Worthy on his hypnosis for permanent deletion. Lacolith was a DE too, right?
