Hey folks =)

Been a while since I've been into home theater and my Energy 12" sub died a few years back. I've currently got NHT fronts and center and infinity rears. The NHT's are still amazing after 10+ years of use and the infinity rears are some very solid surrounds.

My budget isn't what it was when I made the initial purchase years back but I'm finding a huge gap in my sound be it music or movie. Can anyone recommend a decently priced sub of a reputable brand? I've checked best buy's klipsch (a brand i used to sell) and even their little 8" is 350 bucks. I'm not entirely sure whether to get an 8, 10 or 12 living in an apartment. It's a very soundproof place, but subwoofer bass waves can travel through nearly anything.

Not looking for ultra high end, but at the same time don't want a plastic rattlebox lol...

I got this system for the weight room at school. The sub does a great job and has power level and frequency controls. Maybe buy the set and box the other speakers for the future?

So what are you actually looking to spend?

Probably 350 tops.

I went to a local mom and pop store listened to a few of theirs. They had Paradigm, DCM and one other that slips my mind. The paradigm was right around my top budget price but I think that must have been their entry level stuff as the 12" he was showing me sounded pretty sloppy.

Check the 'Internet Direct' (ID) manufacturers, all the research that I did when I was shopping for mine said that they're the most bang for your buck. Shipping to Canada destroyed my savings however so I bought a Klipsch RSW-10D locally.

Anyways, check out their websites:
SVS
HSU
Epik

It's probable that when I do a dedicated home theatre room I'd bite the bullet and get something really nasty from SVS.

You can get a Definitive ProSub 800 for like 400.

They're quality subs. All Definitive Technology speakers outperform their price point in my opinion.

Yeah this one seems to get amazing reviews everywhere and has a dynamic range that is wider than some 10's and 12's. The only thing that I've read that would make sense is the lower Hz bass sounds roll off too quickly what with it being an 8.
