Heh. I'm not at work right now, but peep this.

Last year we had around 60,000 pre orders.

This year we started taking payment for them and of course now you know we've done over 600,000.

The problem is we announced price guaruntee's for people that bought iphones in the last 45 days. Instead of waiting till launch day and getting the initial batch out, we were trying to make everyone happy.

We knew it was going to be busy, but, no one was prepared for this.

All pre orders that were done after we announced launch day phones were gone have been pushed back to July 14h the last time I heard so.

Sorry? is about all I can say. We figured 100,000, maybe 2, not 6.

Cell phones with built in video calling are cool. Next year there will be a bunch of them from different cell phone makers.

I'd love the iphone if it was on a CDMA provider, heh.

I just have a sour taste in my mouth about the walled garden that is the iphone, and the mac experience in general.

The EVO's reporting build problems with the screen. Not to mention, I'm just about as happy w/ Sprint's fake 4G as I am with ATT's (sorry, Sola) lousy service and plans.

Preorders would've been even higher if they had white phones available. I know I would've gotten one.

They may not get an order from me, actually. Once iOS4 comes out (next week?), it may be a tough sell, upgrading from a 3GS, since it'll have virtually all the same features.

No sorry's needed from anyone, I just love pulling on Chris's chain. I get his problem and I don't blame you, we should have fixed our network ages ago. Although in Nov 2 people from Apple identified a radio problem on the iphone and fixed it, which has helped on our network.

There's 2 issues that people fail to touch on in NYC and San Fran why people have shitty 3g service.

1. Jailbroken I phones. People Jailbreak to tether, and they are using triple if not quadruple the bandwidth normal users are. Most of it is done in NYC and San Fran. I wish I could show you the data, you'll just have to trust me but we know what the real issue is.

2. I might have touched on this elsewhere, but the reason our voice / data networks have issues to begin with is that they are two separate networks. This is what allows simultaneous voice and data on 3g devices, one will go down without the other, etc. Upgrading and or fixing the issue isn't as easy as "go replace the equipment" instead of a one step process it's a two step process.

I'm not trying to make excuses for AT&T's network, and really it's only bad in various places. I have zero issues in the Pac Norwest. It's just years of listening to people that have no idea why the service is shitty with ludicrous expectations and demands from a carrier.

I seriously hope the shit with the FCC goes down because it is not what the people want, even though that governing body is who they complain to. If the U.S. ends up like Europe, even more customers will be pissed.

Yeah, other than spotty coverage in some new developments in DFW, I have absolutely no problems with my non-jailbroken iphone. Except for maybe storage size, because I'm starting to run low.

I'll be straight up, Sola. I'm more likely to jailbreak and tether my phone now than I ever have been before.

I've been patient, but with AT&T's new tethering plan, I want to tell them to shove it. $45 for 2GB of data is crazy and it's certainly not going to help the problem in NYC/SFO.

I probably would sign up for the 2GB plan if if included tethering for $25.

And with three data phones on a family plan, I was tempted to switch two of them to the $15 plan, but the way they're handling overage is insulting. I'd rather hedge my bets that they're going to use more data in the long run.

Yeah, I haven't been at work in two months, I'm home on medical leave atm, so i have no idea what was behind this bullshit. I have to give the usual spiel though, if we catch ya, we're gonna fuck ya on the tethering.

It's all going to come to a head with the FCC, and data bandwidth for wireless carriers is under heavy scrutiny, especially price.

I really don't blame you though Leo. We are nickeling and diming the shit out of people for data, when we really could be making more money by giving people what they want.

All cell providers are nickel and diming on data, which is completely absurd.

There's no reason I should have to pay $50/mo for data with any caps. That's why I dropped my VZW wireless device and went with Clear for portable internets.

The caps have to be there because the towers can not handle the amount of traffic. Until the actual towers can manage data like broadband for the homes do, everyone's fucked.

Hopefully when we make the transition to LTE next year this bottleneck will be handled properly, but something tells me it won't be.

What're you guys doing on a mobile device that uses 2GB anyway? =O

Not using wifi is what.

Occasionally I'm forced to work in places that don't have WiFi, or where there is WiFi but it's no better than dialup because of the number of people on it.

I think at last check I've used 30-40gb/month on average in mobile data for the last six months.

According to our data, 65% of all our smartphone customers use less then 200mb of data per month. Hence the drop for 15.00 price plan. This is awesome and good, especially if you have a blackberry and don't use either pandora or slacker radio.

95% of the remaining 35% use less then 2gb. So we capped it and are saving customers 5.00 a month.

the remaining 5% either tether with jailbroken iphones or other smartphones, or stream pandora, slacker and other music services multiple hours a day, every day of the month.

Yeah i was shocked Sprint put the Mobile Hotspot option on the EVO as unlimited for only $29.99 and our Connection cards on the 3G side are still capped at 5GB I have a feeling this is going to change soon.

I use about 700MB each month, without streaming anything. Once iOS4 comes out and I can stream music in the background, that'll change.

And when the iPhone Netflix client is released, watch out.

So on the bright side, maybe I'll get one anyway?

on our 1X cdma network, we can't stream anything 8(
