No shit.

Pre-kunark and before I was on Lanys, I sold a level 49 (not even 50!) erudite enchanter with all the leet gear (oracle robe, efreeti boots, gbs, chanter wand and a 40 something paladin with a fbss and a few rubicite pieces) for $3800.

True enough, Leo.

And yeah, even when WoW was prepping for launch and just after I was still selling plat that I had left over after transferring to LoS. I ended up selling Sola for just over 4 figures. People are crazy.

Being a completely newbie and having someone give me a BIBS. Running to blackburrow, falling down the tree trunk, and losing my BIBS to corpse rot because I couldn't get it back :(.

I think that's a secret that Elessar, after all these years, has yet to give up.

Which is odd because it was widely speculated that you were using sales from all those vindi bp's and the mountain of items being sold through Maldan to pay your rent, etc and whatnot. Folks never brought it up because no one wanted to get booted from such a powerful guild. Then came the merger lol...

That 100% never happened. In fact, I did about jackshit with the bank until Givin took over basically and was tied to his account. Any real expenditures went through Leo if I remember right.

I did sell my chars, and a few of the Conquest bows after I quit in PoP (major dick move there, which I regret). Aside from that, never sold anything else.

At the very least, Maldan was more than one person. I'd dealt with him on multiple occasions one of which being the loot I got from the very first Lodizal (sp?) kill and the belt he dropped. Throughout various transactions the personality changed, as did his memory of various things.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking it was at least 2 people.

I would say you are correct, unless he was seriously disturbed, I had a great many personas to talk to in our dealings.

He was so nice to me when I bought my Blood Ember BP, but then again nothing could have soured my mood that day. :D

Yeah, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that (1) Maldan was controlled by more than 1 person, considering he was *always* in that EC tunnel; and (2) he was either a raid guild banker, or had very close ties with them. There's no way he obtained a lot of his sellables through trading - and if memory serves, in later years he was selling looting rights to raid gear as well as the typical tradeable stuff (i.e. vindi bp's, etc.).

Given that he existed long before the rise of FL, Visions, and the rest, I'd say he was most likely the original CQ's banker character (pre-Sleeper's incident). Or perhaps he even predated CQ. Tri-airs, perhaps?

/shrug.
Wouldn't even be surprised if it worked the other way around, either, in that Maldan started out as an alt to sell stuff, and eventually gained so much money that he became an (un)official guild banker, or perhaps even funded a guild's rise to power.

I remember back in the pre-kunark days when Maldan was selling a cloak of fire. This was back before any guild would have had all their players decked out with 36% haste. Makes more sense that he would have been someone's personal bank alt back then.

Wow, the bullshit of me leaving Oryx after being back for like a month came out.

I could go into all the details of why I did what I did, but I'll spare everyone that story. Oryx had more drama than any guild I was ever a part of though and that's saying a lot.

I think Maldan deserved his own thread...I don't think we'll ever know the truth.

However, anyone recall seeing him for sale on Player Auctions? Sure was funny seeing the price actually climb since he was in no way a useful char w/o his inventory...

haha I just remembered some non-epic but hilarious Oryx trolling I did...Erzhan and I were having some fun one night and I created an Iksar Shaman named Lilpeanus and somehow got invited to the raid and after a wipe spammed Razzrah with raid chat to rez me and he flipped the fuck out rofl.....Lilpeanuts was actually IN THE RAID TOO....and she was flipping out like WTF ITS NOT ME!

I also trolled Hurrikaine the same way as Hurrikajne since j was very similar looking to i in EQ with that small ass text.

Oh good times.

I think my second worst memory is just realizing, in hindsight, that I really did sit in a raid for 4-6 hours, twisting 3 songs for literally almost that entire time. What the hell was I thinking?

One of my worst moments would have to be on (i think) the first hate raid I organized - We killed Innie and there was one dark elf dead at the very end (can't remember who) that needed a rez, and the clerics had all gated out except for Felishanna... and she refused to rez him because he was a dark elf. I think he eventually got a rez from another cleric porting up just to rez him, but that was a whole load of drama.

Dragging 7D along to raid the Hole some 20+ times probably to get to Kirn right after the shaman epic came out was a nice hell fest as well, and when we finally did get him the part just after in PoF was broken by the devs and stayed that way for about a month.

And just to throw in my Xantheus moment - we were farming ToV pretty heavily almost every day at one point, and I was feeling sick so I decided to sleep instead of log on at the usual time... then my grandmother comes in and wakes me up telling me there's a "Xantheus" on the phone for me.

<3 you you dorf bastard.

Ah the old "3 or 4" debate. In most situations, it made sense to just do 3 to avoid the drop... unless you pumping mana pre-nerf.

All of my worst moments happened very close to the best moments. Wiping in Fear was irritating, but being in the rebreak group was one of my favorite things.

Probably my least favorite moment was in Lower Guk. I was pretty much a total noob as were the 3 other people in my group. We were fighting and fighting and barely staying allive. We decided to the King and he smashed us. As we were trying to figure out how to get our corpses the rezzes started. Someone else had killed him and we got rezzed into the cleared room. It was like scales falling from my eyes. I used to think we were pretty good.

Any drama that detracted from raiding sucked. Overall I would say that I enjoyed EQ greatly and it was nice to see some old names here. To this day I still use my old crew's name's on my WoW alts..Yiladin, Lucchus, Calad and Lathena.

EQ for me was a bad addiction. That I'm glad I could finally break. It had it's good times and it's bad times. My happiest moments in EQ were when Wakkagud and Wikhed both got their epic 1.0's. And the saddest time for me was when TSO collapsed when WoW was released. So many people that I really did like and want to be with disappeared.

Raid leading in general sucked ass.

Rathe Council burned me out. I quit EQ after the guild made Time.

Spending an entire weekend of my time to get magicians their epic shit only to be called selfish after. I was a wizard and received nothing nor did I care about anything there.

Failed raids due to complete fucking incompetence. Seriously, how hard is it to count to 3 and push a button.

I saw this thread and started trying to remember back, in the end all the worst moments I remember are personal and nothing exciting. I hated it when my co-addict friends would have rl catch up with them and have to quit from everything to flunking out of school, or running out of unemployment or disability hehe, having spouses who didn't play meltdown etc.
I remember being bummed and disappointed by people a few times. Having people you thought were really awesome and you felt all good about going out of your way for, turn out to be greedy lewt whores without a loyal bone in their damn body heh. Luckily I have way more good memories than bad, and I got into a group of friends with way more selfless people than selfish ones.
It was a short what..., 6 or seven years that flew by too fast, but I had a good time and I don't regret staying home for my early twenties playing EQ. I look around at everyone who went out, all the baggage and battle scars, good gawd you guys kept me out of all sorts of trouble xoxo!

That's good to hear. I kind of regret spending a retarded amount of time playing when I was 10-16 or whatever but I guess you have a lot more time to burn when you're that young. At least I took some things away from it...including the $1000 or so I got from my character and his money...haha, I feel so bad for people who paid real money for that stuff.
