so the boost wireless commercial on the Super Bowl caught my eye-- unlimited talk, text, and web for $50 bucks a month, and no 2 year contract.

Is Boost Sprint?

What are the drawbacks?

I'm definitely someone who doesn't use 50% or more of my current phone's features. I don't really care about having the latest gadget. However, being able to text and talk, combined with watching a silly video on the web everyonce in a while... good enough for me.

Anyone have experience with Boost?

boost is nextel/sprint.

the downside is you have to pay cash for the phone up front, and their phone selection is limited to the point of absurdity.

if I like one of their limited available phones, then the selection isn't that important.

As it is, I think I would be comfortable with the Sanyo Incognito. Paying up front for a phone that's $129 bucks is definitely not a big deal to me.

Anything else? I have time to think about this; I get out of Verizon's contract in October of this year.

Sprint/Nextel's customer service and coverage suck monkey balls. I wouldn't wish someone that I despise would get their Sprint/Nextel service - that would be just plain mean.

My company uses Nextel so I have to deal with them frequently. I have had excellent luck with the customer service, but the actual signal coverage is very poor compared to Verizon. There are multiple dead zones that seem to work fine for ATT and Verizon as well as random dropped calls. If you don't make critical phone calls and the occasional drop isn't that big a deal to you, then go for it and pocket the difference.

Customer service for Boost mobile is handled entirely separate, they are owned by sprint / nextel but not managed by them

I work for sprint Boost is great choice you get nation wide coverage to boot too, send me a private message if you have any more questions!

Bumping this post because I went through with this, but not exactly as you would expect.

My Verizon contract ended on October 11. I ended up purching a LG Rumor Touch and signing up with Virgin Mobile. $40 a month for unlimited internet, texts, and 1200 minutes a month works for me. So far it has been wonderful, and I don't regret it at all. Virgin Mobile is also owned by Sprint these days.

Someone mentioned the lack of phone choices as a negative to prepaid, but I found that there were a LOT of phones to choose from.

So far so good! It's nice to not be on a 2 year contract, and this phone does at least as much as my old phone did, and my monthly bill is so much less.
