I'm taking my kids on a winter sky telescope tour, Northern hemisphere. I have a few favorite 'surprises' already, but do any stargazers here have a favorite spot, constellation, or asterism?

Danke!

When? If you can manage it I highly recommend showing them the Space Station or if not a satellite. This site is great for that:

Then there's Jupiter and the usual winter sky suspect, Orion Nebula, Pleiades.

I am just a novice star watcher. I don't have great gear but for my tiny pos telescope I like to use http://www.skyandtelescope.com/ and their skymap before I go camping to see if there will be anything special to gaze.

I toyed with the idea of the space station, but it's a speedy little git and reframing it quickly enough to let the kids all get a good view might be rough. Still, it's worth a shot. My favorite course in uni was Astronomy, unfortunately they had nothing approaching a degree in that or any related field.
