So...I had my bike stolen on Wednesday. I was able to file a police report including the serial# so I should get it back if it turns up in a pawn shop. It was a mid-range bike (about $1400.00 7 years ago) so I'm hoping it was stolen for a quick buck from the pawn shop.

Do most higher end bike thefts end up at the pawn shop? Thoughts...

Probably ends up for private sale on craigslist usually.

Around here they get sold among the crack heads as currency for drugs. Rarely do they hit the public.

You only need one bicycle, but you need alot of drugs.

If you report it to the police with the serial number, there is a good chance you will get your bike back. If its sold to someone else, you will never see it again unless it gets stolen. I doubt pawnshops take in many bikes due to the shear volume of them stolen.

I say keep your eyes on craigslist or kiijjii for the bike you may get lucky, but otherwise kiss it good bye.

Around here when someone looses a bike, the first place to look is off the end of the town dock with a grapple hook and long rope.

That's one of those tidbits of information where I can't help but wonder how you came to know that for sure. =O

I went out with a cop for a while. Learned lots of stuff I wish I didn't about my (supposedly) sleepy tourist city.

The horrible thing for me as a cyclist is to see a 4k$ downhill mountain bike thats been spray painted black. Chain, suspension parts, sprockets, everything. Brings a tear to my eye.

My bike got stolen once by some kids and I knew where they lived and knew they stole it. Had to bring the police to get them to give it up, but they had already filed off the serial number on the bottom of the frame. Still got it back but don't think the serial number helps.
