(CNN) -- John Hughes, the producer, writer and director whose 1980s films such as "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club" and "Some Kind of Wonderful" offered a sharp-eyed look at teenagers and their social habits, has died, according to a statement from his representative. He was 59.
John Hughes was behind some of the most successful films of the 1980s.

Hughes died of a heart attack while taking a morning walk in Manhattan, according to the statement.

Oh wow, that's a shame. =\ I loved his movies like every other 80s teen

I grew up in the 80s.... and yet I have never seen a John Hughes film :(

Maybe now is a good time to start to see what I missed out on, and as a rememberance to a critically acclaimed director.

You grew up in the 80's and you never saw Ferris Buhler's Day Off or THe Breakfast Club???
