I have been looking at some of the comments on http://www.textsfromlastnight.com about this.

Quote:
(551): Michael Jackson and Farah Fawcett are dead
(201): NOOOOOOOO not MJ! Someone tell the paramedic to grab him by the heart and just "Beat it"

Quote:
(313): ed mcmahon, farrah fawcett, and michael jackson all in one week. What next god, are you juts gonna take my penis too?

Quote:
(214): The Lord gave Farrah Fawcett 1 wish when she died. She wished that all children in the world would be safe! The Lord granted her wish and killed Michael Jackson.

Quote:
(818): I'm upset that MJ died and all but waking up to his face on my HDTV in the middle of the night while half-asleep is pretty much the scariest fucking thing ever.

Quote:
(406): Dude michael jackson died, guess he's not 'stayin aliveee' any longer.
(1-406): Uh dude that wasn't a michael jackson song it was the BGs

Quote:
(325): I bet farrah fawcett is having words with michael jackson in heaven for stealing her thunder

I never understood the need to be "respectful of the dead."

I mean, when Hitler died, did people stand around and say nice things? (obligatory Hitler reference to make my point)
When a murderer is put to death, should people "remember all the good he did"?
If a person is being raped, manages to get a knife and kill her attacker, should she immediately only say nice things about him?

I know those are extreme examples, but come on - how does dying immediately erase your sins?

And I'm not saying you go to the funeral and throw eggs - I realize there are people affected by the person's death who are not responsible for his/her deeds. As Tarot mentioned - they aren't here.

There is something about ripping on a dead person that makes me feel "dirty", so I try not to do it. But, let's face it - MJ was foooked up. And some of that may be through no fault of his own. The drug addiction, the surgery addiction, the kiddie addiction - I feel sorta bad for him.

Same here. I remember he had this hat throw move that killed everyone on screen, and he'd turn into a metal Michael Jackson with a rocket pack.

the console game was badass and the arcade game was beyond that with the multiplayer option with different colored tuxedo MJ's each having their own take on the finishing move dance power.

I have sympathy for his family and all and he was a great entertainer... but seriously, I was somewhat blindsided by this media blitz. I simply cannot tune to any of the news channels at all. I learned a few extra aspects to Jackson's life the first night, and I appreciated that... but I was all but enraged to see it on every time I turned on the TV for every day since then. I don't understand why it needs to be 24/7 =/ Other than the obvious, people want to see it. /sigh

Anyway, all the child-molesting accusations aside(I honestly have no idea one way or the other)... rest in peace. Not the easiest celebrity life by any means. This guy had so many problems right from the start, I'm surprised he made it that far.

The best thing I've seen yet was the interview with his dad at the BET crap.

Friend told me he heard on the radio that Jackson's father, at the BET awards, was doing some interview and was promoting his record company. I personally did not watch the BET awards, but did hear that the father made an appearance and thanked everyone for support... but nowhere have I read/heard that he was also promoting his record company as well.

If he *was* doing that... wow. In a time of grief and loss, you are publicly promoting a personal project to others? I sure hope what was reported on that radio station was untrue.

no, I heard the interview. The person doing the interview was from CNN. The reporter asked him how they were coping and he had his publicist to read a statement. He does pub his new record company. I feel for the guy doing the interview. You can clearly see that he is taken aback during the interview.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but what with all the celebrity deaths going on, I thought Colbert's piece on Jeff Goldblum's death was excellent.

Wow his father seems less than heartbroken at Michael's death....

That said, given the major differences in people, it's really hard to judge from that interview the sincerity of his grief.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Controversies

Jackson's image as a father was tainted throughout the late 1980s through the mid 1990s in which the media reported stories told by some of his children that Jackson was abusive towards them. When he managed his family, he ordered each of them to call him "Joseph", which led to several siblings being estranged from their father.

In 2003, in an interview for BBC TV, Joseph admitted to using physical punishment on his children and also voiced his disapproval of homosexuality.

Michael Jackson claimed that from a young age he was physically and emotionally abused by his father, enduring incessant rehearsals, whippings and name-calling, but also contended that his father being a strict disciplinarian played a large part of his success. In one altercation — later recalled by Marlon Jackson - Joseph held Michael upside down by one leg and "pummeled him over and over again with his hand, hitting him on his back and buttocks." Joseph would also trip up or push his male children into walls. One night while Michael was asleep, Joseph climbed into his room through the bedroom window. Wearing a fright mask, he entered the room screaming and shouting. Joseph said he wanted to teach his children not to leave the window open when they went to sleep. For years afterward, Michael suffered nightmares about being kidnapped from his bedroom.

Michael first spoke openly about his childhood abuse in a 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey. He said that during his childhood he often cried from loneliness and would sometimes get sick or start to vomit upon seeing his father. In Michael's other high profile interview, Living with Michael Jackson (2003), the singer covered his face with his hand and began crying when talking about his childhood abuse. Jackson recalled that Joseph sat in a chair with a belt in his hand as he and his siblings rehearsed and that "if you didn't do it the right way, he would tear you up, really get you."

Psycho dad.

He seemed pretty out of it during that interview, kinda expected after a son's death. But that being said, he did have one point I sorta agreed with in particular: We have right now a week-long celebration of the guy's life. Ok, so we want to respect the dead and all... but wow that's a lot of length even if you have a slow news week. And it doesn't really seem to correspond at all with any of the media coverage Jackson received for the past 20 years.

In that sense at least, I think he's right that it's a little unfortunate that people have SO many good things to say after he's dead and can't hear any of it... but the last 20 years were spent with him being under a microscope without much mention of his legacy at all. I don't know all the details on the Jackson case, and I did hear some interesting evidence against him... I just know it would be an awful shame is he really was innocent all this time and things ended like this because a few parents wanted to get a payout.

Would-Be Baby Mama Wants Jackson's Kids, Estate

Today 3:35 PM PDT

She's ba-a-ack.

A woman who claims to be Michael Jackson's ex-wife is arguing that the late King of Pop's "properties, monies and assets must be transferred to [her] immediately."

That, and she should get physical and legal custody of all three of Jackson's children because she is their biological mother—a claim she repeatedly pressed in 2006 and 2007 in several failed attempts at getting custody and financial support.

Per documents filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superiro Court, Nona Paris Lola Jackson is also demanding that Jackson's body, which a source told us is currently in cold storage at L.A.'s Forest Lawn cemetary awaiting interment, be returned to the coroner's office.

After which she should be flown to Los Angeles and put in charge of future negotiations with AEG Live regarding any upcoming tribute concerts or other business ventures.

Nona Paris, who is representing herself in these preceedings, detailed all of this—including the claim that she and Jackson are still married because the deceased, "though died to this earth...lives with my father (Satan the devil) Khalid Lucifer"—in 93 handwritten pages.

On Earth, however, they legally separated in 2008, according to the filing.

The petitioner also demands that "her" children be taken care of by Taj Jackson until she is able to take custody of them. And she wants the entire Jackson family out of "her" Encino home because she doesn't want them around the kids.

The court told her not to call them, that they'd call her, and scheduled a hearing on the matter for Aug. 19.
