So this guy started a little blog online to represent my little town where I live. It's been around for a little over a year, and it gets very little traffic atm, although he still updates it every few weeks or so.

He advertises it like a blog for a general place for people from our town to chat, "open to all," blah blah, but half his posts are very very slanted toward one side of the political spectrum (can you guess? It's Indiana! We may have gone Obama in the last election, but around here that doesn't mean much).

It's a very small town and I'm a more public figure (because the band performs publicly a lot and is a "face" of the community). People I don't know constantly talk to me when I go get groceries, for example. Anyway, I made up a name and posted a few comments asking why he was being politically slanted if he wants to attract all types of people from our town. I can't really do it under my own name, because I honestly don't know what kind of crap I'll have to put up with if people realize I'm a closet liberal teaching their good children to lie and cheat. Plus, a made up identity let's me not pull punches!

So now I'm thinking I should give this guy our band website to put on his set of links with the other town websites, but on the other hand I don't really want to be associated with this guy....

I don't really have a point. Just thinking out loud. Oh well.

Fribur is a popular celebrity in a small town in Indiana.

Next he will grace the cover of People magazine.

Why do you have a band website and who would visit it if you added the link in the first place?

I'd just ignore the website of the blog and never go back.

If you ask him to post band info, you are inherently giving his site credibility. I guess it comes down to how much you disagree with how the site leans.

We have tons of things going on at any given time during the year. Parents and students use the website to keep track of what is going on and to learn how to be involved.

I use the website as the primary method of communication between our band program and parents.

So what will you gain by having unique visitors to the site that have no direct ties to the band?

ah I see your point.

Still though, the website is also a sort of advertisement for the band. It doesn't matter much outside the town, but there is a group of people within the town that tries to go to our events, even though they have no kids of their own in the program.

Is that site the only place to advertise local events or just the only free place?

We advertise all our stuff in the local paper /shrug.

I'm not really going to post anything there. It's really not a big deal; I was just thinking about it and started thinking out loud onto a post.

Don't sponsor his site. The end.

No seriously, the end.

Zip it.

Zip.

Zip it good.
