Probably a dumb question but these TV's aren't as rugged as my old Sony behemoth, I used to just put a blanket over the screen and tie it down tight. I was wondering if anyone had some tips for moving a TV like packing one up, protecting the screen and all that, it's a 40". I need to move it to another city about 150 miles away. I'll probably just be using a truck, too big to fit in my car.

Honestly depending on how much it cost...like if you're talking something that cost over $1k...I'd ship it with insurance. It's actually less expensive to ship than you'd think and the insurance is worthwhile.

Assuming you can't do that, and assuming you don't have the original box...I'd wrap it in a soft blanket, put a comforter around it as well, because that adds a lot of extra padding, buffet that with towels to make sure it was 'tight' in the box, then make sure the box was secure in the truck without shit on top of it, but secured so it wouldn't bounce around. Like bungie it to a much heavier item but on top.

HTH. I fucking HATE moving.

I have the original box and possibly the original Styrofoam but I never though of shipping it, thought it would be easier to move it myself but i've never moved an LCD TV that big before. I'll look into it thanks.

With the original box and foams then use fedEX or something. How do you think they get to the store in the first place ? =)

LOL Yes I know, the little white straps that hold it shut together are cut off though the bottom piece isn't connected to the top piece anymore so i'll either need to find some really huge zip ties or attempt to use rope and hope it stays tied throughout it's trip. Also it's just 150miles away so I didn't think i'd be too much trouble using a truck but seems like shipping it insured is what most people do.

I just moved a week ago, and I have a 40" LCD with original box and the styrofoam. If you are using it in a truck and just putting it in the back, you should be fine.

However, I heard a *rumor* that if you lay these TV's flat that it might disorientate the crystals inside the TV and cause it to be damaged. I am not sure exactly if this is truth or not, but I know that I put mine upright in my SUV with no issues. Then again I only moved like 3 miles so it is a bit different than 150 :)

But if you have original box and styrofoam you should be fine.

I just toss a blanket over mine and stand it up against the back seat

but ideally you saved the original box and packing, and that case the back of the truck is fine, just mind the rain
